I Support the Girls

Restoring Dignity and Self-Respect to Women

This Sunday night marks the beginning of the month of Tammuz. At the beginning of each month, we celebrate Rosh Chodesh ("Head of the Month"). Rosh Chodesh has often been cited as a holiday especially important to women. This has roots stemming from the story of the Golden Calf where women were unwilling to give their jewelry to help build the idol. A particular midrash (commentary) explains that "God, upon hearing this, gave the women their reward in this world and in the world to come. What reward did He give them in this world? That they should observe the New Moons more stringently than the men." This has of course taken on new meanings in modern times, and Rosh Chodesh is still considered a day important to women. In this spirit, we are supporting an organization that’s mission is to restore dignity and self-respect to women.

I Support the Girls collects and distributes donations of bras and feminine hygiene products to women and girls in need across North America and has affiliates during this important work throughout the world.

Righteous Crowd featured I Support the Girls in March 2019. Founder & Executive Director Dana Marlowe recently shared ISTG’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is part of it:
COVID-19 has caused empty store shelves where menstrual products should be, has cost many their jobs, and has sent our economy into a tailspin. With a 35% increase in requests for products, and no foreseeable end to the growing need, I Support the Girl’s (ISTG) nimble framework for our Disaster Relief Program is allowing us to pivot from our usual work and address the needs of our communities on a deeper level. Many organizations we typically work with have temporarily closed their doors, while others have expanded their scope. ISTG has identified new partners, and is working hard to make sure everyone has the supplies they need. Our organization is working locally in more than 50 communities worldwide, collecting and distributing these oft ignored necessities.
