Concrete Jungle
Providing Groceries for People in Need
Tonight marks the beginning of the harvest holiday, Shavuot, where we celebrate receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai. Historically, Shavuot was the time when farmers would bring the first fruits of the season to the Temple. This week, we are featuring Concrete Jungle, an Altanta based organization that transforms overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. Concrete Jungle is now providing weekly groceries to nearly 300 families a week who have been impacted by COVID-19.
Concrete Jungle shared:
"In partnership with Repair the World, Concrete Jungle has started a grocery delivery service for food pantry clients who are quarantined or who have higher health risks. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the need for food among the elderly and vulnerable is higher than ever.
Each day we get more calls from clients who need food but must stay home in order to stay safe. If not provided with food, they will be forced to leave their homes, putting themselves at higher risk of exposure. We’ve gathered an amazing group of volunteers and together we are working to provide groceries to these food pantry clients until this epidemic is under control and social distancing is no longer necessary.
We’re having a hard time meeting the volume of calls we’re receiving because of the limited supply of our food pantry partners. Therefore we need more funds to purchase food directly from stores."
