Rebuilding Homes for Israel’s Neediest Families

In this week’s Torah Portion, Vayekhel-Pekuday, the Israelites finally gather to begin construction on the mishkan (tabernacle). In this spirit, we are supporting an organization that provides urgent home repairs for families living in poverty in Israel. To date, Tenufa Bakehila has repaired 5,000 homes in Israel, helping hundreds of families per year. Now, Tenufa Bakehila is increasing their efforts to meet the needs of senior citizens in their network to help with urgent home repairs and supplies.

Our donation will assist to rebuild the lives of hundreds of poverty-stricken families. We received this email from Tenufa Bakehila below:

"We are living through very strange times right now. Things feel uncertain and “off”, especially for many senior citizens who find themselves in isolation, alone, anxious and extremely insecure. Tenufa Bakehila has decided to call every one of the hundreds of elderly people whose homes we have repaired in recent years, to check in on them and to offer our help in any way we can.

In addition to being touched by the gesture, we came across senior citizens who have urgent problems with electricity, home insulation, broken lights, as well as people who need help with food shopping, getting medicine and buying food for their animals. In addition, we gave each elderly our phone number so they have an ‘address’ and listening ear, where they can voice their needs. All the cases were dealt with, either by our staff or by contacting other care-organizations and making sure our elderly clients’ needs are met.

We will continue to work as hard as we can, especially during these difficult times, to meet the needs of needy, elderly people in Israel. Best wishes and good health to all the people of Israel and the entire world."
