Empowering Relationships for People with Disabilities

Today is Tu B’Av, the Jewish day of love. Traditionally, this marked the beginning of the grape season in Israel and unmarried women would dance in the vineyards wearing all white. It is now a special day for weddings in Israel. This week, we are featuring an organization that creates opportunities for meaningful relationships, love, and marriage for people with disabilities.

What is the mission of Inbar?
Inbar’s goal is to create opportunities for meaningful relationships for people with disabilities to fall in love and marry.     

How has Inbar impacted your life?
Personally, as a woman with a disability, my journey towards a good relationship and marriage was not easy. Since society conditions us, that people with disabilities cannot have a “normal” life and marry like other people, I had to change my inner thoughts to believe that I could marry and have a normal life. Through my personal journey (and with the right support from Inbar), people with disabilities can be happy and achieve their goals and dreams.

What's the best part of your job and why?
To see the progress people are making in their lives, to get thank you calls and letters and to be invited to their weddings.

What has surprised you about working with Inbar
How easy it is to create a reality of “real inclusion” on a community level, when you see the person and not the disability or cultural differences.
