The Blue Card
Assisting Holocaust Survivors in Need

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day (observed yesterday), we are honored to support an organization that provides direct financial assistance to needy Holocaust survivors. The Blue Card assists nearly 3,000 Holocaust survivors in 35 states.

Read our interview below with Executive Director Masha Pearl.

What is the mission of your organization?
The Mission of The Blue Card is to provide direct financial assistance to needy Holocaust survivors.

Why did you decide to work at Blue Card?
As a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, The Blue Card immediately caught my attention. I was in shock when I learned that approximately a third of Holocaust survivors in the United States are living either at or below the poverty level. I knew I had to become involved right away!

How would you connect the work you are doing to a Jewish Value?
When I think of a Jewish value that connects to The Blue Card, I immediately think of Tikkun Olam, the concept of repairing the world. I feel it is our duty to alleviate the plight of survivors.

What are some ways to get involved?
There are many ways one can become involved:
1. Participate in our events such as the NYC Marathon, TD Five Boro Bike Tour or the NYC Triathlon
2. Deliver packages to Holocaust survivors
3. Visit a survivor through our Blue Card-Lissner Hospital Visitation Program
4. Administrative assistance - we are always looking for help
5. Represent The Blue Card at an informational booth at various events throughout the year
